What speed did the DeLorean have to reach? The car requires 1.21 gigawatts of power and needs to travel 88 miles per hour (142 km/h) to initiate time travel. Can a real DeLorean go 88 mph? It wasn’t designed to get anywhere near 88 MPH.
Oct 03, 2020 · Doc Brown’s flux capacitor, which he describes as making time travel possible, may open such a wormhole for a limited amount of time when the car reaches a certain speed. Therefore, Doc Brown could have mathematically arrived at the 88mph speed by calculating how fast the DeLorean needs to travel in relation to how long the wormhole stays open.
Dec 12, 2009 · The DeLorean must reach 88 miles an hour to activate the flux capacitor and the time circuits
Feb 27, 2014 · It could have been that the lightning bolt gave the car enough acceleration to start moving and actually hit 88 mph in the short time it took to do the somersault. This way we don't need to introduce any magic - the car was moving at 88 mph and the energy of the lightning bolt was enough to activate the flux capacitor and send it back to 1885.
88 miles per hourAfter entering a target date with the keypad inside the DeLorean, the operator accelerates the car to 88 miles per hour (141.6 km/h), which activates the flux capacitor.
The speedometer on a production DeLorean's dashboard only went up to 85 mph. But if you know your BTTF trivia, in order to the travel in time, the car had to be driving at 88 mph, which was, in fact, impossible!Oct 21, 2020
1. It was slow. The DMC-12 was supposed to be lighter and more powerful than the production version turned out to be. The production car used a puny 140-horsepower V-6 engine from a Peugoet-Renault-Volvo joint venture which never delivered the performance promised by founder John Z.Feb 9, 2016

A DeLorean can reach at least 150 mph, but White said his vehicle “was perfectly happy” doing 88 mph. Although the original John DeLorean sports car does not have all the bells and whistles added by Doc Brown in the hit film, White's DeLorean did come with a faux flux capacitor installed by a previous owner.May 30, 2017
As we've reported in the past, these new DMC-12s will likely receive a modern engine making 300 to 350 horsepower, along with an upgraded interior with modern tech. It should cost around $100,000. Espey told Hagerty the company will likely produce one to two cars a week. Of course, not everything is set in stone.Jan 23, 2020
Doc needs to know how long it would take the DeLorean to travel its own length. Assuming the wormhole remains open for . 1072 seconds, and that Doc knew this fact, he could divide the length of the car by 107.2, arriving at 39.33 meters per second or 88mph.Oct 3, 2020
Performance. DMC's comparison literature noted that the DeLorean could achieve 0–60 miles per hour (0–97 km/h) in 8.8 seconds when equipped with a manual transmission, but other sources indicate an acceleration time of 9.5 seconds.

When new, the unproven DeLorean DMC-12 cost a stiff $25,000, when you could buy an established Chevy Corvette for about $16,000. And there weren't many buyers for the DeLorean when it debuted, partly because of its price, unproven nature and the fact that the U.S. economy was in poor shape.
The flux capacitor, which consists of a rectangular-shaped compartment with three flashing Geissler-style tubes arranged in a "Y" configuration, is described by Doc as "what makes time travel possible." The device is the core component of the time machine.
As the time machine nears 88 mph, light coming from the flux capacitor begin…
For most of the first film, the 1.21 gigawatts are supplied by a plutonium-powered nuclear fission reactor and, with the absence of plutonium, a bolt of lightning channeled directly into the flux capacitor by a long pole and hook in the film's climactic sequence. At the end of the first film, and for the remainder of the trilogy, the plutonium nuclear reactor is replaced by a "Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor" generatorpossibly acquired in 2015. The "Mr. Fusion" device apparently convert…
The Time Train was a second time machine that appears at the end of Part III, which is powered by steam instead of gasoline. Doc built it out of a steam locomotive (most likely a different one that Doc either purchased or stole since the one that Marty and Doc used to push the DeLorean up to 88 mph was destroyed). It homages the submarine Nautilus from Jules Verne's novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas. It took Doc ten years to build it. The flux capacitor is inside t…
• Doc Brown makes a cameo appearance in the 2014 comedy film, A Million Ways to Die in the West in which the character is discovered in a barn by the protagonist. The rear of the DeLorean is visible, and Brown quickly moves to cover it up. The DeLorean used for the scene was a replica owned by the film's director and star, Seth MacFarlane.

Universal Studios special effects department built three main DeLorean time machines for the movie Back to the Future. The film's producers characterized the DeLoreans with three names: the A car, B car, and C car.
The "A" car, also known as the Hero car, was the most detailed and utilized vehicle during production. After filming was over, the "A" car was delivered to Universal Studios Hollywoodas a…
The time machine went through several variations during production of the first film, Back to the Future. In the first draft of the screenplay, the time machine was a laser device that was housed in a room; at the end of the draft the device was attached to a refrigerator and taken to a nuclear bomb test. Spielberg vetoed the idea, concerned that children might attempt to climb into one. Zemeckis suggested the DeLorean because it offered mobility, a unique design, and would appe…
