To turn on fast mode in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, simply either press F or if you prefer or forget that short cut, click the Fast Forward button on the bottom middle of the screen near the Pause button. And in case it wasn't obvious, do the same thing to toggle it off.May 8, 2018
Once starting a new game, the player is free to pick between the traditional "Real-Time with Pause Mode", and the new "Turn-Based Mode". As it changes the game fundamentally, players cannot freely swap between the two modes during gameplay (without using the console).
Turn based mode is only for PoE2. There's a bunch of times in PoE2 where NPCs will refer to things you've done in PoE1 (if you haven't played it, at the start you'll get to chose a "path" to sum up what you would have done in it). But it's mostly self contained.May 12, 2019
In Pillars of Eternity, all attacks have the chance to interrupt the target (with few exceptions), and can be directly countered with Concentration. Whenever a character is hit, the attacker's Interrupt stat is rolled against the defender's Concentration stat.
Director Josh Sawyer said the new option 'very fundamentally' changes how the game is played. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire features real-time pausable combat, but some RPG enthusiasts maintain a preference for turn-based battles. A free update coming later this week will give them the option.Jan 22, 2019
Romance is traditionally a minor feature of Obsidian Entertainment's games (if at all), as opposed to Bioware games. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire features several characters with whom the Watcher can form romantic attachments: Aloth Corfiser. Maia Rua.
Obsidian Entertainment has done it again. The company recently announced The Outer Worlds and garnered a hardcore following for their isometric RPG Pillars of Eternity has made another stellar gaming experience.
Overall, the turn-based mode is an excellent addition. There are some limitations, however. Not all of the game's encounters feel like they've been optimized for this new mode, so expect to have a few lengthy fights against utterly harmless mobs, especially at lower levels.Jan 23, 2019
When focusing on the main objectives, Pillars of Eternity is about 36 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 104 Hours to obtain 100% completion.

Athletics is a skill in Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. It is used for physically demanding situations, and grants the Second Wind ability.
It's a good feature, but I've heard it said that the game should be balanced for normal speed, with slow and fast speeds not at all necessary to see what's going on. And I agree.
Slow will not solve the problem of normal speed being not right, so I don't intend to test with it on.
Personally I haven't gotten around to using it a lot. I mean, I like the idea of it a lot and I could see myself maybe making use of it in some mega-fights that I'm sure we'll see in the full game.
I'd much rather they got normal speed in hand, and fixed auto-pause so that it actually works in the helpful way that it did in IE games.
I agree that normal speed should be the speed that everything should be balanced around.
